Series Recap.png

The Texas Stars swept the Manitoba Moose in a two-game series at Canada Life Centre Sunday and Monday.

Sunday's matinee began with Remi Poirier for Texas and Thomas Milic for Manitoba between the pipes. The first period saw no scoring but Poirier stopped six Moose shots while Milic turned away 11 from Texas.
In the second period, Samu Tuomaala, who was acquired in a trade between Dallas and Philidelphia last Thursday, danced around a defender along the wall and fired a pass towards the net-front that was crowded with bodies. The shot richocheted off a Moose defender and past the pads of Milic. The Stars carried a 1-0 lead into the second intermission.

In the third, Kale Clague of Manitoba fired a slap shot that made it's way through bodies in front and eventually past Poirier to tied the game at 1-1. The final horn buzzed and the teams headed to overtime.

In the extra frame, the Stars started with Artem Shlaine, Cameron Hughes and Trey Taylor. Just 30 seconds in, Hughes deked his way to the net front, creating a scramble, where the puck found it's way to Shlaine's skate, and then onto his stick blade, where he lifted it past a horizontal Milic. The goal marked Shlaine's first game-winning goal and the first win of the season for Texas.

Monday's rematch saw no change in net for the Stars, Poirier earned his sixth start of the season. As for Manitoba, they looked to Domenic DiVincentiis.
The first period saw no scoring for the second night in a row. The second period went nearly the entire frame without a goal until the 17:19 mark when rookie forward Ayrton Martino tallied his first AHL goal. Stars captain, Curtis McKenzie, skated around the cage, drawing defenders with him and then sent a no-look pass to the front where Martino was waiting. The puck found his stick and slid past DiVincentiis for a 1-0 Texas lead.

The third period saw more Texas scoring. Near the halfway point of the period, the Stars found themselves on the power play after Clague was sent off for slashing. The Stars set up their man-advantage and found Hughes in the right circle. He took his time, picked his spot, and fired it over the shoulder of DiVincentiis. The goal marked the first power play goal of the year for Texas.

The Moose put together 14 total shots in the third, all of which Poirier turned away. The final goal came off the stick of Shlaine, who found the empty net.

The Stars skated away with a 3-0 win, a Poirier shutout, and two more points.

Community Update.png

Last week, the Stars conducted four floor hockey programs in four days! Monday, Matthew Seminoff and Trey Taylor challenged 4th and 5th graders at Ray Elementary in Hutto. Tuesday, Kyle Looft and Ben Kraws visited the PALS class at Leander Middle School. Wednesday, Curtis McKenzie and Antonio Stranges joined the second graders at Reagan Elementary in Cedar Park. Finally, Cross Hanas and Sean Chisholm wrapped up the week with 5th graders at Union Hill Elementary in Round Rock. At the end of each program, we donated all the equipment to the school.

We've also hosted two awesome kids and their families for Captain's Kids thus far through the first month of the season! In 2023, Captain Curtis McKenzie started a program alongside the Texas Stars Foundation that welcomes children to Texas Stars home games who are disabled, sick/injured, or financially unable to attend on their own.
