The Texas Stars fell in two close battles with the Iowa Wild over the weekend at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
Friday, Iowa got the scoring started in the second period when Gerry Mayhew tallied a goal on the power play after Curtis McKenzie was sent to the box for hooking.
A few minutes later, Vladislav Kolyachonok was whistled for high-sticking and sent Iowa back on the power play where former Stars defenseman Ben Gleason scored.
The Wild carried a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.
Just under three minutes into the third period, Trey Taylor tallied his second of the season off of a setup pass from Ayrton Martino. The two connected when Taylor skated into the zone with the puck and found a streaking Martino on the left side. Martino slung a pass back through the slot to Taylor who fired into the wide-open net. The Stars deficit was cut in half.
Texas' comeback efforts were halted when Oskar Olausson scored near the halfway point of the third period, regaining the two-goal lead for Iowa.
The Stars continued their efforts but ultimately, the final horn buzzed and Iowa skated away with a 3-1 win.
Saturday, it was a defensive battle between the two teams with Remi Poirier and Cal Petersen in net. Iowa opened the scoring just past the halfway point in the first period with a goal from Riley Heidt. The puck was passed to an open Heidt directly in front of Poirier in the slot.
The second period saw no scoring but a 12-6 shots advantage favoring Texas.
The final frame held more defensive battles and the Stars added nine more shots on Petersen but the former NHL goaltender stood tall. With 14 seconds left in regulation, Hunter Haight found the empty net and Iowa skated away with a 2-0 shutout victory and the weekend series.

The Texas Stars head north of the border for a Sunday-Monday series with the Manitoba Moose.
The Moose are 1-4-1-0 through their first six games. They opened the season at home against the Laval Rocket, who they split the series with. Following those games, Manitoba ran into the Grand Rapids Griffins, who are 5-0-0-0, and swept the Moose in a three-game series.
Manitoba is led by fifth year pro, David Gustafsson, who has five points in five games. Their goaltending duo is Thomas Milic and Domenic DiVincentiis—the latter has logged more playing time and sports a 1-3-0 record through four games and a 3.57 GAA.
The puck drops Sunday at 2pm and Monday at 7pm in Winnipeg, Manitoba at Canada Life Centre.

We're excited to continue with our Floor Hockey program. So far this season, we've visited three schools with four more to go in October alone! During a floor hockey session, the Texas Stars Foundation provides sticks, nets, floor hockey balls, a training course, and we finish with a game. At the end of the program, we donate all the equipment to the school.
We've also hosted two awesome kids and their families for Captain's Kids thus far through the first month of the season!
In 2023, Captain Curtis McKenzie started a program alongside the Texas Stars Foundation that welcomes children to Texas Stars home games who are disabled, sick/injured, or financially unable to attend on their own.
