The Texas Stars defeated the Milwaukee Admirals 3-2 in the fifth and final game of the Central Division Finals to advance to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2018.

In the Pacific Division Finals, the Abbotsford Canucks defeated the Colorado Eagles in five games to advance to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in their history.

Texas and Abbotsford have never faced each other. From 2013-2021, the Utica Comets were affiliated with the Vancouver Canucks, but in 2021, they were relocated to Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada and rebranded as the Abbotsford Canucks. The AHL kept a team in Utica following the change, preserved the name Comets, and changed their color scheme to better fit their new affiliate, the New Jersey Devils.

Abbotsford finished the 2024-25 regular season in second place in the Pacific Division with a record of 44-24-2-2 and 92 points. They finished with the most wins in their division—more than the Colorado Eagles, who won the division. Sammy Blais leads the Canucks with 11 points in 12 playoff games, followed by Linus Karlsson and Phillip DiGiuseppe who have 10 and 8 points, respectively.

The major factor in Abbotsford's success is their goaltending. Arturs Silovs has played in all 12 postseason games, logging four shutouts and going 8-3-0 in that time. The fourth year professional has had a save percentage above .900 for the past three seasons.

On the other side, Justin Hryckowian, Cameron Hughes and Kole Lind are leading all skaters in the playoffs with 15, 14 and 11 points in just eight games. Hryckowian has logged seven goals and eight assists in eight games, proving why he was named the AHL's Rookie of the Year this season.

Texas has six players in the top 15 for scoring across all the teams in the playoffs including, Hryckowian, Hughes, Lind, Matej Blumel, Kyle Capobianco and Curtis McKenzie.

The Stars are led by Remi Poirier in net who has gone 4-1-0 in the playoffs so far. Poirier boasts an impressive 1.87 GAA and a 0.926 save percentage. Texas has two fantastic netminders. The other is Magnus Hellberg, who has gone 2-1-0 in the playoffs with a 2.85 GAA.
