The Texas Stars opened the 2025-26 season against the Grand Rapids Griffins at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
In Friday's season opener, the Griffins scored the first goal of the game when a point shot was deflected in front of Stars netminder, Remi Poirier, by Eduards Tralmaks. Just over three minutes later, the Stars got on the board when Antonio Stranges found Arttu Hyry in front of the net where Hyry beat Griffins goaltender, Sebastian Cossa, to tie the game at one.
In the second period, Grand Rapids forward Carter Mazur tallied two goals, one at even strength and one on the power play. The Griffins carried a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
The final 20 minutes began with a goal from forward Matthew Seminoff to bring the Stars back within one. Seminoff skated down into the right circle and fired a shot that beat Cossa on the glove side. Just over three minutes later, a loose puck found it's way into no-mans land where Stranges skated up to it and took a slap shot that beat Cossa over the top and tied the game at three.
The Griffins and Stars continued to battle but inside the last four minutes of regulation, Mazur scored off a rebound for his third of the night. The final horn sounded and the Griffins skated away with their first win of the season, 4-3.
In the rematch on Saturday, neither team found the net during the first period. Goaltenders Ben Kraws for Texas and Michal Postava for Grand Rapids stood tall in net, making eight and seven saves, respectively.
In the middle frame, the Griffins opened the scoring on the power play with a goal from Dominik Shine. Shortly after that, John Leonard doubled their lead when he skated in on Kraws, fired, and scored.
Just over four minutes into the final frame, Grand Rapids added to their lead when veteran Austin Watson beat Kraws through the legs to make it 3-0. Past the halfway point of the period, Harrison Scott got the Stars on the board with a tap-in goal off the pass from Vladislav Kolyachonok. The goal marked Scott's first of the season. Nearing the last five minutes of regulation, Texas continued to pepper Postava with shots when one finally found it's way past him. Gavin White played the puck along the boards, found the stick of Cross Hanas in front of the net who deflected it into the cage. Hanas, a native Texan, cut the Griffins lead down to one with just over five minutes to play.
Grand Rapids held strong, fending off more opportunities, and eventually grabbed the 3-2 win.

The Texas Stars head on the road for the first time this season on Friday, October 17 and Saturday, October 18.
Friday, the Stars will meet the Rockford IceHogs in Rockford, Illinois, who are 2-0-0-0 through their first weekend of play. They are led by rookie Oliver Moore, who tallied two goals and an assist over the weekend for three points. Behind him are Dillion Boucher and Brett Seney, who each logged two assists and a goal in two games.
Their goaltending duo split the weekend series with games against Milwaukee and Iowa. Drew Commesso, who the Stars are familiar with over the last two seasons, earned a win in his first start—making 35 saves on 37 shots. His rookie counterpart, Stanislav Berezhnoy, also earned a win—stopping 29 of 31.
Following Friday's game, the Stars will head to UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena to face the Milwaukee Admirals. Milwaukee only played one game over Opening Weekend, falling in overtime against the IceHogs. The Admirals roster is chalk-full of familiar faces in the Central Division, including former Texas Stars goaltender, Matt Murray.

We're excited to bring back some of our favorite community initatives this season. In October, we are visiting six different schools as a part of our Floor Hockey program in partnership with Texas Children's Hospital. During a floor hockey session, the Texas Stars Foundation provides sticks, nets, floor hockey balls, a training course, and we finish with a game. At the end of the program, we donate all the equipment to the school.
Captain's Kids also returns this season. In 2023, Captain Curtis McKenzie started a program alongside the Texas Stars Foundation that welcomes children to Texas Stars home games who are disabled, sick/injured, or financially unable to attend on their own.
