HERSHEY, Pennsylvania -- The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, were shut down by the Hershey Bears in a 6-1 defeat on Sunday afternoon at the GIANT Center.

Texas earned a power play three minutes into the contest, but Spencer Smallman picked up a turnover in the high slot. He rushed down the left wing, dropped off the puck for Bogdan Trineyev, who snapped a shot just under the crossbar to open the scoring.

Jacob MacDonald sped down the left wing and fired a shot off Arno Tiefensee’s pad, Jonny Brodzinski put home the rebound to make it 2-0. The Stars had trouble clearing their own zone 48 seconds later, and Brodzinski tallied his second goal of the game from the slot. Brandon Halverson replaced Tiefensee at the start of the second period.

Ellis Rickwood fed Jack Anderson at the point with just over seven minutes left in the middle frame, and the defenseman launched a shot over the glove of Mitch Gibson for the Stars' only goal of the night.

Leading 3-1 at the start of the third, Smallman restored the Bears’ three-goal cushion four minutes into the final frame as he finished off a feed from Andrew Cristall in the slot.

Christian Fitzgerald raced out on a breakaway with 11 minutes left, but his shot rang the left post and Gibson kept out the rebound. Trineyev added another goal on the power play before the midway point of the final frame, and Theodor Niederbach pitched in a sixth for Hershey in the final four minutes.

Halverson had 20 saves in relief, while Tiefensee took the loss with eight saves on 11 shots faced. Gibson stopped 22 of 23 shots in the win.

The Stars continue their road trip on Friday and Sunday in Manitoba against the Moose. The puck drops at 7 p.m. on Friday. Catch all the action on AHL TV on FloHockey.
