Stars Come up Short in Rockford

Nov 1, 2026

ROCKFORD, Illinois – The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, came back from an early two-goal deficit, but could not pull out a victory in a 4-3 defeat to the Rockford IceHogs on Sunday afternoon at the BMO Center.

The IceHogs opened the scoring just 24 seconds into the first period as Martin Misiak scored his first goal of the season. Brett Seney fed Misiak in the right circle, and he snapped a one-timer into the back of the net.

Gavin Hayes circled the back of the net three minutes later and threw the puck into the crease and it found its way over the goal line to make it 2-0.

Jack Becker won a face-off back to Trey Taylor, who rushed down the right wing and cut to the net. Taylor powered a shot past Drew Commesso at 12:11 of the first period for his first goal of the season.

Dylan Hryckowian tied the game 2-2 on the power play with seven minutes left in the second period. Mike Sgarbossa threaded a pass from the right wing wall to Hryckowian in the circle, who fired a shot between the legs of Commesso for his fourth goal of the season.

The Stars took a penalty in the final minute of the middle frame and the IceHogs capitalized. Jiri Felcman let go of a hard wrist shot from the left circle, giving Rockford a 3-2 lead with 42 seconds left.

Rockford took another two-goal lead with 8:35 left in the third period. Cavan Fitzgerald snapped a shot from the right point that Halverson stopped, but the rebound went off of Brett Seney and in.

Jack Anderson cut the Rockford lead to 4-3 two minutes later. Christian Fitzgerald’s pass trickled out to the point, and Anderson wristed his third goal of the season past Commesso.

Sgarbossa led Artem Shlaine on a breakaway with five minutes to go, but Commesso closed his pads to keep Rockford in front.

Texas pulled Halverson with 3:06 remaining and created multiple high-danger chances, but couldn’t find the equalizer.

Halverson made 14 saves in the loss, while Commesso allowed three goals on 27 shots in the win.

Texas will finish up their three-game road trip on Wednesday against Grand Rapids. The puck will drop at 6:00 p.m. CT at Van Andel Arena. Catch all the action on AHL TV on FloHockey.
