Shine Scores Four as Stars Drop Road Trip Finale in Grand Rapids

Nov 4, 2026

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, dropped the final contest of their three-game road trip, 6-2, against the Grand Rapids Griffins at Van Andel Arena.

The Stars opened the scoring just 3:36 into the first frame, as Mike Sgarbossa collected his seventh goal of the campaign, assisted by Tristan Bertucci and Ellis Rickwood. The veteran forward tipped in a wrist shot from Bertucci at the point to get Texas on the board first. However, the Griffins added two power-play goals of their own just 45 seconds apart, one from Dominik Shine and the second from Noah Dower Nilsson, to take the lead.

Shine added his second of the night in the form of a quick shot from the top of the circle to give Grand Rapids a two-goal lead heading into the second period. Texas made a goaltending change after the goal, as Brandon Halverson entered the game in place of Arno Tiefensee.

Fortunately for the Stars, Ben Gleason took a page out of Sgarbossa’s book, finding the back of the net just 36 seconds into the middle frame to bring Texas back within striking distance. Gleason dangled around a defender at the half wall and avoided a poke check before ripping a quick shot past Trey Augustine to cut Grand Rapids’ lead in half. His goal was the lone tally of the middle frame.

Unfortunately for the Stars, momentum swung back in the Griffins’ favor in the third; Shine completed his hat trick at 8:10 of the frame to reinstate Grand Rapids’ two-goal lead, and added a fourth goal with less than three minutes left in regulation. With 59 seconds to go, Dylan James punctuated the Griffins’ win with their sixth and final goal, bringing the score to 6-2.

Tiefensee made five saves in the loss, while Halverson stopped 16 of 19 in relief. Augustine allowed two goals on 26 shots in the win.
