Dallas Stars Sign Defensemen Kyle Capobianco and Luke Krys to Contract Extensions

CEDAR PARK, Texas – Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has signed defenseman Kyle Capobianco to a two-year, one-way contract extension that will run through the 2027-28 season. The two-year deal is worth $850,000 for the first year and $900,000 for the second. Additionally, the team has signed defenseman Luke Krys and forward Matthew Seminoff to two-year, two-way contract extensions, which will begin in the 2026-27 season.

 

ABOUT DEFENSEMAN KYLE CAPOBIANCO:

 

Capobianco, 28, appeared in 33 games for the Stars this past season, totaling five points (2-3—5) while averaging 12:08 of time on ice per game. In all, he has totaled 17 points (7-10—17) in 107 regular-season NHL games with the Arizona Coyotes, Winnipeg Jets and Dallas Stars. He also played in five games for the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League (AHL) during the 2025-26 season, putting up four points (1-3—4) during those games.

The six-foot-three, 194-pound defenseman has skated in 293 career AHL games with the Tucson Roadrunners, Manitoba Moose and Texas Stars, recording 220 points (41-179—220), carrying a plus-minus rating of plus-72. He was named the 2023-24 Eddie Shore Award winner, awarded to the most outstanding defenseman in the AHL, after putting up 54 points (12-42—54) in 69 games for the Manitoba Moose.

 

A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Capobianco won the bronze medal for Canada at the 2015 IIHF U18 World Junior Championship, tallying two assists in seven games played.

 

Capobianco was originally selected by Arizona in the third round (63rd overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft and signed with the Stars as a free agent on July, 1, 2024.

 

ABOUT DEFENSEMAN LUKE KRYS:

 

Krys, 25, skated in 40 regular-season games and tallied 16 points (7-9—16) during the 2025-26 campaign with the Texas Stars. Among Texas Stars defensemen, Krys finished the season ranking third in goals (7) and tied for fourth in scoring (16). During the 2026 Calder Cup Playoffs, Krys skated in all five games and recorded two points (0-2—2), tying for the team lead in scoring among defensemen.

 

The six-foot-one, 188-pound defenseman has posted 35 points (11-24—35) in 113 career AHL contests, all with the Texas Stars, while carrying a career plus-minus rating of plus-nine. Krys has also skated in 23 career Calder Cup Playoff games, registering seven points (1-6—7).

 

A native of Ridgefield, Connecticut, Krys was originally undrafted before signing with the Stars on March 19, 2024.

 

ABOUT FORWARD MATTHEW SEMINOFF:

 

Seminoff, 22, played in 72 regular-season games and posted 50 points (24-26—50) during the 2025-26 campaign with the Texas Stars. His 24 goals and 153 shots on goal topped all Texas Stars skaters while his 50 points ranked second.

 

The six-foot, 189-pound forward has registered 74 points (30-44—74) in 198 career AHL contests, all with the Texas Stars, while carrying a career plus-minus rating of plus-17. Seminoff has also skated in 23 career Calder Cup Playoff games, recording eight points (3-5—8).

 

A native of Leesburg, Virginia, Seminoff was originally selected by Dallas in the sixth round (179th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft.
