Dallas Stars Recall Joel Kiviranta, Texas Sends Diego Cuglietta to Idaho

FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Stars Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has recalled forward Joel Kiviranta from the Texas Stars. The club has also placed center Justin Dowling on injured reserve, retroactive to the game on Jan. 29. In a separate move, Texas has loaned forward Diego Cuglietta to the club’s ECHL affiliate, the Idaho Steelheads.

 

Kiviranta, 23, has skated in seven games in 2019-20 with Dallas and has recorded nine shots on goal. He made his NHL debut with the Stars on Jan. 3 against Detroit, recording three shots in 8:37 of ice time. The forward has also skated in 38 AHL contests with Texas in his North American professional debut season, ranking sixth on the team with 20 points (11-9=20). 

 

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound native of Vantaa, Finland was originally signed by Dallas as an undrafted free agent on July 1, 2019.

 

Cuglietta, 24, begins his second stint with the Steelheads this season after logging one assist in three games earlier this year. The 5-foot-10, 176-pound forward has played 19 games for Texas, recording four points (1-3=4). Cuglietta scored his first professional goal three games after making his professional hockey debut at the end of the 2018-19 season.

 

The Kamloops, British Columbia native produced 41 points (25-16=41) in his senior season at Lake Superior State University and led the NCAA with 25 goals. In four seasons, he produced 100 points (50-50=100) and became the fourth skater in school history since 2000 to hit 100 career points.

 

Texas faces the San Antonio Rampage tonight at 7 p.m. as they return to the ice for the first time since the 2020 AHL All-Star Classic. It is also the beginning of season-long six-game stretch away from Cedar Park, Texas.
