Texas Unloads 33 Shots on Former Goalie Matt Climie

CEDAR PARK, TX – Former Texas goaltender Matt Climie turned in a flawless performance as the Stars outshot Chicago 33-19 in the game, but lost to the Wolves 2-0 Friday night at Cedar Park Center.

Matt Fraser had the Stars’ best scoring chance of the first period.  Just back from his recent NHL recall with Dallas, Fraser, who scored his first career NHL goal on Monday in Nashville, rang a shot off the right post in the opening minutes of play.  Chicago then beat Texas netminder Jack Campbell with their first shot of the game. Adam Polasek controlled a blocked shot at the left point and zipped a wrist shot past Campbell’s right skate at 4:38 to give the Wolves an early 1-0 lead. The visitors extended the advantage to 2-0 at 11:55 when Darren Archibald slipped past the Stars defense and unleashed a wrister from the left faceoff circle that blew past Campbell’s blocker.

After a scoreless second period, Texas increased its offensive pressure in the third. The Stars bombarded Wolves goaltender Matt Climie with 15 shots in the frame, but failed to solve their former netminder. At the other end, Campbell made some critical saves as the contest wound down to keep the Stars within striking distance, but a stonewall effort from Climie proved too much to overcome. Despite pulling Campbell with two minutes remaining to gain an extra attacker, Texas couldn’t find the back of the net and Chicago earned a 2-0 road victory. The loss marked the first time the Stars had been shut out in regulation since falling 3-0 on November 9th to the Toronto Marlies.

Chicago starter Matt Climie stopped all 33 shots he faced to record the win and his fifth shutout of the year. Texas goaltender Jack Campbell stopped 17-of-19 shots and took the loss.  The Stars outshot the Wolves 33-19 and neither team had a power play, marking the first time this season that Texas has not had at least one power play in a game.

The Stars get back to work on Saturday, March 2nd when they host the Oklahoma City Barons for a 7:00 p.m. faceoff.  Saturday’s game is a Family Four Pack Night and the Stars T-Shirt Giveaway presented by Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority.
