Stars Suffer Just Second Shutout Loss this Season

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Nick Ellis earned the shutout and Josh Currie added a hat trick, but it was the power play of the Bakersfield Condors that led the way in a 5-0 shutout win over the Texas Stars on Tuesday night at Rabobank Arena.

The Condors struck three times on four man-advantage chances to open up a 3-0 lead, and that was plenty for Ellis who stopped 28 shots in the shutout performance. The Stars suffered just their second shutout loss of the season.

Texas will close out their season-long, six-game road trip on Wednesday at 9 p.m. CST against San Jose.

After being denied twice by Justin Peters from point-blank range on the Condors' first power play of the night, Joey LaLeggia opened up the scoring on a third try with 4:09 remaining in the first.

The Condors' power play extended the lead to 2-0 when Griffin Reinhart set up Currie in the slot at 8:18 of the second, and Nick Ellis continued to frustrate the Stars with a breakaway stop on Jason Dickinson late in the middle frame.

Patrick Russell added Bakersfield's third man-advantage tally at 8:05 of the third. Currie struck again at 10:43 and 18:06 to complete the hat trick performance for the Condors.

Texas finished 0-for-2 on the power play in the game. Peters stopped 27 of 32 shots in the loss for Texas.
