Stars Soar Past Rampage 4-2Feb 18, 2012
Texas Travels to Oklahoma City on Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:00 p.m.
Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (23-25-2-2, 50 points) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (27-22-2-1, 57 points) 4-2 in front of 6,517 fans at the Cedar Park Center on Saturday night. Texas left wing Matt Fraser scored the go-ahead goal at 12:52 of the third period, breaking a 2-2 tie and putting the Stars in front for good. Fraser, also added an assist as Texas took its third straight victory at home. Center Travis Morin added two assists, as the Stars picked up their ninth win over the last 13 home games. Defenseman Maxime Fortunus and left wing Mike Hedden also scored for the Stars. Texas goalie Andrew Raycroft (8-7-1) stopped 24 of 26 shots, as the Stars improved to 13-8-2-1 at home. San Antonio goalie Jacob Markstrom (6-8-0) stopped 34 of 37 shots as the Rampage fell to 13-10-2-1 on the road. Forwards Greg Rallo scored and Bill Thomas scored for the Rampage. The Stars got on the board late in the first period on the power play. Defenseman Maxime Fortunus fired a one-timer past Markstrom with 36 seconds remaining. Center Travis Morin and left wing Matt Fraser each added an assist on Fortunus’ sixth goal of the year and the 1-0 lead.
The Rampage quickly tied the game, 1-1 just 47 seconds into the second period. Forward Greg Rallo netted his 13th goal of the season with assists coming from left wing Evan Barlow and center Scott Timmins.
San Antonio claimed a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal from right wing Bill Thomas. He found the back of the net at 6:15 of the third period with help from center Jon Matsumoto and defenseman Colby Robak. Texas answered at 7:28 as right wing Colton Sceviour tipped a shot from defensemen Jace Coyle. Brad Lukowich also had an assist on the game-tying goal . The Stars took a 3-2 lead at 12:52 as left wing Matt Fraser snapped in his 26th goal of the year. Center Angelo Esposito and defenseman Jordie Benn each provided an assist on the game-winning goal. Texas strengthened its lead with 21 seconds remaining in the final frame, as left wing Mike Hedden scored an empty-net goal. Center Travis Morin added the assist for the 4-2 final.
Texas will travel to Oklahoma City on Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:00 p.m. to face the Barons. The Stars return home for a two-game home stand against the Houston Aeros. Friday’s game is set for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff and it is presented by Community Impact Newspapers. Friday is also a 3-2-1 night, featuring $3 domestic drafts, $2 sodas, and $1 hot dogs. The first 2,500 fans to Friday’s game will receive a player magnet courtesy of Time Warner Cable. Texas faces off against Houston at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25th.
