Campbell Stops 24 Shots in his Goaltending Return

CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars and Rockford IceHogs traded goals all game long, but it was Rockford’s Pierre-Cedric Labrie who was the hero with the overtime-winner in a 4-3 final on Friday night at Cedar Park Center in front of 4,347 in attendance.

Texas erased deficits of 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2 in order to force the overtime period.  Jamie Oleksiak knotted the tying goal for Texas with three minutes remaining in regulation.  Greg Rallo and Scott Glennie also scored for the Stars (25-1712-1).

The Stars and IceHogs face off again Saturday night at 7 p.m. to continue Texas’ homestand.

The IceHogs opened up the scoring 8:39 into the first on a power play goal by Brandon Mashinter, stuffing home a loose puck in the goal crease.

Rallo knotted things up for the Stars just over two minutes into the second with a power play goal of his own, burying Derek Meech’s crossing feed from the corner for his team-leading 19th of the season.  Mark McNeill made it a 2-1 lead for Rockford at 10:42, driving through the left circle and slipping the puck past Campbell – who was making his first start for Texas since Jan. 20, and took the loss in a 24-save performance.

With just under four minutes left in the second, Scott Glennie drove the net and found a rebound from Patrik Nemeth’s point shot to score his eighth of the year and tie the game again for Texas.

In the third, Rockford scored at 5:09 to regain the lead with a goal from Garrett Ross, but Travis Morin set up Oleksiak for the tying marker on a one-timer from the right circle.

Labrie’s game-winner was his eighth of the year, and came with 22 seconds left in the extra period.

Both teams exchanged power play goals as the Stars went 1-for-4 and the IceHogs finished 1-for-2.

Michael Leighton took the win in net for Rockford, stopping 22 shots.
