Peters Stops 42 Shots in Net to Lead Texas

SAN JOSE -- Justin Peters stopped 42 shots and all four shooters he faced in the shootout to lead the way for the Texas Stars in a 2-1 shootout win to snap the 14-game winning streak of the San Jose Barracuda on Wednesday night at Solar4America Ice.

Ethan Werek scored for the Stars (25-26-1-2), who snapped a six-game skid of their own in the win. Ryan Carpenter scored for San Jose (33-11-1-4). The game was played at the Barracuda’s practice rink after the club’s normal home, SAP Center, had a schedule conflict with a previously booked event. The Stars and the Barracuda split their four-game season series in the finish.

Texas returns home Saturday to host the Grand Rapids Griffins at 7 p.m. at H-E-B Center.

After a scoreless first period, Werek opened up the scoring midway through the second on a rebound chance generated by Julius Honka's point shot for his seventh of the season.

Carpenter's tying marker came on a deflection goal at 10:32 of the third. After Peters and San Jose's Troy Grosenick combined for 72 saves in regulation, the two goaltenders kept up their strong play with a perfect overtime frame forcing the shootout.

Werek again found the back of the net for Texas in the fourth round, and Peters denied Adam Helewka to lock up the Texas win and end the Barracuda's streak.

Texas went 0-for-3 on the power play. San Jose finished 0-for-2.
