ROCKFORD, Ill. - For the second straight night the Rockford IceHogs held off elimination by winning Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals over the Texas Stars in a 3-1 final on Friday at the BMO Harris Bank Center.

David Kampf's wrist shot from the blue line deflected off the blocker of Texas goaltender Mike McKenna and in the net for an awkward third goal to shut down an comeback attempt from Texas.

Jeff Glass provided 40 saves in net for Rockford to continue his hot play. Roope Hintz scored the lone goal for Texas, who leads the best-of-seven series, 3-2, with Game 6 coming on Monday night at 7 p.m. CT in Texas.

It was a quick start for the hometown IceHogs, who jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening nine minutes of the game. Cody Franson finished off a long possession in the Stars' zone with point shot for his sixth of the playoffs at 3:01 and Luke Johnson got behind the Texas defense for a breakaway goal at 8:15.

Roope Hintz cut the Hogs' lead in half at 9:17 of the second on a second chance puck in the slot from Joel L'Esperance's shot to make it a 2-1 score.
