Travis Morin Tallies Two Goals in Texas Loss

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Travis Morin’s power-play goal for the Texas Stars evened up the game late, but Dan DeSalvo’s power play goal with 1:23 to play in regulation was the game-winner as the Manitoba Moose picked up a 5-4 win on Sunday evening at the MTS Centre in front of 6,573 fans in attendance.

Morin’s power-play goal was part of a three-point night for the Stars (11-8-1-1), who rallied from a 3-1 and 4-3 deficit in the game before DeSalvo’s dagger finally sealed it. The Moose (11-8-1-1) snapped a five-game losing skid to Texas dating back to last season. Maxime Lagace suffered the loss for Texas with 26 saves in net. Morin finished with two goals in the game.

The Stars return home on Friday to host the Rockford IceHogs at 7:30 p.m. CST at H-E-B Center.

DeSalvo finished with two goals in the game after scoring 16 seconds into the third to give the Moose a 4-3 lead. Morin’s power-play goal came with 3:58 to play in regulation when his centering pass deflected off the leg pad of Moose goaltender Ondrej Pavelic and in the net.

Jack Roslovic set up DeSalvo for a one-timer in the left circle for the game-winner. Pavelic finished 31 of 35 in the Manitoba win.

The game started fast for the Moose as they opened up a 3-1 lead through the opening period of play. Roslovic and Patrice Cormier scored 20 seconds apart in the opening five minutes of the game to give the Moose an early lead. After a Texas timeout, Matt Mangene’s cross-ice pass fed Morin for his first of the night and eighth of the season at 9:47. Jimmy Lodge muscled home a rebound goal on the power play late in the period to respond for the Moose.

At 6:22 of the second, Matej Stransky finished off an odd-man rush for Texas with a rebound goal to pull the game back within one. Dustin Stevenson then buried a shot from the point with just over a minute to play in the second to even up the score at 3-3.

Despite the loss, the Stars are 4-2-0-1 in their last seven games. Stransky and Morin are tied for the Texas lead with nine goals on the season.

Texas finished 1-for-3 on the power play. Manitoba finished 2-for-3. Texas outshot the Moose, 35-31, for the game.
