Lagace Wins 10th Straight Start in Net for Texas

CEDAR PARK, Texas -- Two goals of offense was all that Maxime Lagace needed in net to lead the Texas Stars to their fifth straight win in a 2-1 final against the Lake Erie Monsters on Valentine’s Day in front of 4,639 in attendance at Cedar Park Center.

Travis Morin provided the game-winning goal in the second period to extend his point streak to six games. Lagace stopped 33 shots to win his 10th straight start for Texas (30-18-3-3). With the win, the Stars swept their weekend pair of games against the Monsters (26-17-5-3) and closed out the season series winning three of the four matchups.

Texas hits the road for a Wednesday matchup against the San Diego Gulls at 9:05 p.m. CST.

For the second straight night it was the Monsters that drew first blood 11:49 into the first period when Sonny Milano corralled a loose puck in the corner and set up Michael Paliotta at the point for his seventh goal of the season. Texas fought back at the 15:47 to tie things up as Gemel Smith forced a rebound off Lake Erie’s Brad Thiessen, and Cole Ully tapped in his third tally of the season.

In the closing seconds of a Texas power play at 7:28 of the second, Julius Honka unloaded from the left point and sparked a scrum in front for Travis Morin to bury his 15th of the season and give Texas the 2-1 lead. From there, the rest of the game belonged to Lagace and the Stars’ defense.

Texas limited the Monsters to just 11 third period shots and weathered a final storm with the extra attacker on the ice for Lake Erie to seal the final score.

Texas finished 1-for-3 on the power play and held the Monsters scoreless in five man-advantage chances.

Jason Dickinson’s point streak came to an end at five games for the Stars. Texas is 9-2-0-0 in their last 11 contests and has won 16 of the past 22.

Thiessen stopped 26 of 28 shots in the loss for Lake Erie.

The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars and currently in their seventh season at Cedar Park Center.
