Shore's Point Streak Comes to an End at 10 Games

CEDAR PARK, Texas -- Brock McGinn's hat trick goal proved to be the overtime-winner as the Charlotte Checkers topped the Texas Stars in a 5-4 final on Friday night in front of 4,746 at Cedar Park Center.

McGinn's winner came 1:23 into the sudden death period. The Charlotte forward also scored the game-tying goal at 13:54 of the third to knot the score at 4-4. Radek Faksa finished with a pair of goals for the Stars (12-10-2-1).

Texas hosts the Stockton Heat on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Moments after killing off the first Checkers (13-11-0-0) power play, Texas executed a counterattack rush on the Charlotte net that ended with Julius Honka tapping in his third goal of the season at 6:45 to give Texas the early lead. The Checkers fought back to tie it at 8:23 when McGinn whacked the rebound over the top of a diving Jack Campbell for his first of the night. Charlotte added on another with David Wohlberg popping a shot from Carter Sandlak top shelf making the score 2-1. Ryan Murphy extended the Checker lead to 3-1 with assists from Patrick Brown and Rasmus Rissanen at 14:04. With less than two minutes to play in the first, Faksa deflected a Ludwig Bystrom shot from the point past Charlotte's Drew MacIntyre for his first of the game and sixth of the year.

At 12:33 of the second, Faksa batted in his second of the game to cap off a two-on-one rush and knot the game for Texas. On the following face-off, Matej Stranksy snapped a sharp-angled shot past MacIntyre to give Texas the lead again seven seconds after Faksa tied things.

With 6:06 left to play Derek Ryan fed a pass in front for McGinn's tying marker. The two also connected on the overtime-winner for the Checkers.

Devin Shore's point streak for the Stars came to an end at 10 games. The Stars finished 0-for-5 on the power play, while Charlotte went 1-for-5.
