Texas Signs Defenseman William Wrenn to PTO

Stars Add Rookie Blueliner to Roster from ECHL’s Alaska Aces

CEDAR PARK, TX – The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today that defenseman William Wrenn has signed a professional tryout contract and was called up from the Alaska Aces of the ECHL.

Wrenn, 21, joins the Stars after playing in 51 ECHL games for Alaska and recording 21 points (5 goals, 16 assists) and 21 penalty minutes and represented the Aces at the 2013 ECHL All-Star Game.  The Anchorage, Alaska native is making his second trip to the AHL this season.  He originally signed a PTO with the Worcester Sharks on January 15th and made his AHL debut the next night against Hershey.  In three games with Worcester this season Wrenn had no points and a -1 rating.  In his first professional season, Wrenn played two seasons with the U.S. National Development Under-18 team, where he was teammates with current Stars goaltender Jack Campbell and helped Team USA win the gold medal at the 2009 IIHF Under-18 World Championships.  He also played parts of two seasons of NCAA Division I college hockey for the University of Denver Pioneers (2009-2011) of the WCHA and parts of two seasons of major junior hockey with the Portland Winterhawks (2010-2012) of the WHL.  Wrenn was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

The Stars will begin a seven-day, four-game road trip on Wednesday, February 20th against the Rochester Americans at 6:05 p.m. CST at Blue Cross Arena.
