Stars Come from Behind to Earn a Point in 2-1 Overtime Loss

Nov 15, 2014

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – For the second straight night the Texas Stars and Grand Rapids Griffins needed overtime to decide a winner as Kevin Porter scored a breakaway goal with 40 seconds to play in overtime give Grand Rapids a 2-1 win on Saturday night in front of 8,009 at Van Andel Arena.

Mike Dalhuisen scored his first career AHL goal for the Stars at 9:23 of the third to knot the game and force the extra frame.

The Stars (6-3-4-0) close out their three-game weekend on Sunday when they visit the Rockford IceHogs at 4 p.m.

Dalhuisen’s game-tying marker came on a one-time blast from William Wrenn’s assist.  Gemel Smith won the faceoff back to Wrenn to pick up the second assist on the goal.

After a scoreless first period, the Griffins (6-6-1-0) opened up the scoring on an odd-man rush at 13:12 of the second as Anthony Mantha scored his first career AHL goal, appearing in just his second career game.

Jussi Rynnas took the loss despite a 34-save effort in net for the Stars.  McCollum turned aside 23 shots in the win for the Griffins.

Texas finished 0-for-3 on the power play.  Grand Rapids finished 0-for-4.
