Shay McGlynn Named Texas Stars’ New Athletic Trainer

CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, announced today Shay McGlynn has been named the team’s new athletic trainer for the upcoming 2015-16 season.

McGlynn, 29, joins the Dallas Stars organization after spending the past two years with the Greenville Road Warriors of the ECHL.  Prior to his time in professional hockey, he spent a year on the training staff of SUNY-Plattsburgh (NCAA) primarily working with the women’s soccer, hockey and men’s lacrosse teams.

The Glenmont, N.Y., native played hockey at Westfield State University (NCAA Division III) and graduated in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training. He completed his master’s degree in 2013 from California University of Pennsylvania.  McGlynn is certified with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, with the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a strength and conditioning coach and as a corrective exercise specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

McGlynn previously served as a student athletic trainer as an undergraduate, and was the trainer for the men’s hockey team at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He also spent a year as a graduate assistant trainer at the University of Hawaii-Manoa working with local high schools.
