Branden Troock Buries the Game-Winner for Texas

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Rampage knotted the score with less than a minute to play in regulation, but Branden Troock was the hero with the overtime-winner to lift the Texas Stars to a 3-2 win on Thursday at AT&T Center in the first of two preseason matchups between the two teams.

Zach Bell and Caleb Herbert also scored for the Stars in the win. Phil Desrosiers stopped 16 of 17 shots just over 34 minutes of action.

The two teams will play their final preseason tune-up on Saturday at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park at 3 p.m. CST.

Bell’s goal came at 6:34 of the second to give Texas a 1-0 lead, but Rocco Grimaldi put San Antonio on the board just over a minute later.

Herbert regained a 2-1 lead for the Stars less than a minute into the third on a loose puck in the goal crease. AJ Greer tallied the extra-attacker, power play goal for the Rampage with 57 seconds left to play to force the extra frame.

Landon Bow earned the win and stopped 16 of 17 shots in net after relieving Desrosiers midway through period two. Kent Simpson took the loss after coming on in relief of Jeremy Smith from San Antonio.

The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, and will begin their eighth season at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park in October.
