Rookie Defenseman Joins Stars from WHL

CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, announced Friday rookie defenseman Ondrej Vala has been assigned to the club after concluding his junior season with the Western Hockey League’s Kamloops Blazers.

Vala (VAH-luh, AHN-dray), 18, just finished his second season with Kamloops. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound defenseman tallied 25 points (10-15=25) in 60 games this season. In his WHL career, the Kolin, Czech Republic native has appeared in 132 games for the Blazers with 14 goals and 32 assists.

Vala was an undrafted free agent signed to a three-year, entry-level contract with Dallas on Sept. 26, 2016.

The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, and are currently playing their eighth season at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
