May 3, 2014

CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today that Dallas has reassigned defenseman Ludwig Byström to Texas from Färjestad BK of the Swedish Hockey League.

Byström, 19, posted 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists) and 24 penalty minutes in 51 games for Färjestad. The Örnsköldsvik, Sweden native also appeared in 10 games during the 2014 SHL Playoffs, helping Färjestad reach the Finals, before being swept by Skellefteå AIK. Byström also traveled to St. John’s, Newfoundland with Färjestad this year to compete in the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic, where he tallied one assist in a 7-2 win by the AHL All-Stars.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound defenseman was part of the Swedish team that won the silver medal at the 2012 IIHF Under-18 World Junior Championships in the Czech Republic, where he earned an assist in six games. Byström was ranked as the No. 8 European Skater by NHL Central Scouting prior to the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, where he was selected by Dallas in the second-round (43rd overall). He signed a three-year entry-level contact with Dallas on July 16, 2012.

After sweeping Oklahoma City in the first round of the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs, the Texas Stars are currently waiting to find out who their opponent will be for the second round, the Western Conference Semifinals. As the top overall seed in the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs, Texas will face the lowest-remaining seed in the Western Conference in the second round, which is a best-of-seven format.
